How To Collect DNA Samples

Step-by-step instructions

Please refrain from drinking or eating for an hour before sampling. Chemicals and particles in the ingested drink or food may make the DNA in the sample difficult to extract, or degrade it, rendering the results invalid.

Please refrain from smoking for one hour before the test.

The home paternity test is not legally valid and the results will not show up in court as it is the participant who is responsible for collecting the sample, so there is no legal evidence that the sample was taken from the individual who made the statement. It's on the form. After receiving the results of the home test, you may wish to take it to the next step through a court-approved DNA paternity test.

Step 1

Oral (buccal) swabs were packaged in a sample collection envelope, one pair per participant.Remove the swab from the envelope and place it to one side.

Step 2

You will need to fill in the consent form and identification information on each swab envelope before collecting samples.

Step 3

Open the paper package and remove the cotton swab.Note that only the non-cotton end of the swab is handled. Do not touch the end of the cotton thread with your hand or finger at any time.

Step 4

Using a clean, dry hand, roll the tip of the sample collection swab firmly over the inside of your right cheek and under your tongue for about 30 seconds to collect cheek cells. Be sure to move the swab over the entire surface of the inner cheek. The gesture should be firm but not aggressive and should not cause discomfort. Light pressure is enough. Even for young babies and children, the process is completely painless. Repeat the process with the same swab for the second person.

Step 5

The mouth swab should be dried for an hour before repackaging. The best way to do this without risking contamination is to place them upright in a clean, dry glass. Once dry, put them back in the correct envelope. Do not put it back in the original wrapping paper, put it directly into the sample collection envelope provided. Please ensure that you do not touch cotton swabs from different individuals at any time.

Step 6

Repeat the process for each person using a different cotton swab and envelope.

Step 7

Finally, please place all swab envelopes and complete consent forms in a reply envelope. Before sending, you need to affix the correct postage. We recommend using "recorded" or "special delivery" to track down if necessary. And then, just return it to us.

Consent to DNA testing

It is important that everyone who submits their own oral swab for testing must give their consent by filling in their personal details and signing the "DNA sample collection" form. A child who does not consent must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. Failure to do so will result in test delays.
